Resource Watch - Making Research Resource Issue and Validation Information FAIR
Presenting author:
Research resources, such as antibodies and cell lines, are a major source of variability in scientific experiments, and if they don’t perform as expected, a major source of irreproducibility. Therefore, identifying and tracking the performance of these resources is important for maintaining the integrity of the scientific record. Resource Watch (https://scicrunch.org/ResourceWatch) serves this purpose as a hub for storing performance information (i.e. issues and available validation) about a variety of research resources within the biomedical domain. Resource Watch is built on the foundation of Research Resource Identifiers (RRIDs) as a means of uniquely identifying key research resources that underlie the findings of scientific studies in the scientific literature. A core part of the content within Resource Watch comes from the community authorities that manage identifiers for specific resources, such as the Antibody Registry (antibodies) and Cellosaurus (cell lines). However, Resource Watch also enables aggregation of information from a number of other sources (e.g. Human Protein Atlas for antibody validation information and the literature via natural language processing). In addition, the platform will also enable researchers to submit their own claims about a specific resource. Resource Watch ensures that information on the performance of research resources is F.A.I.R. (Findable, Accessable, Interoperable, Reuseable) and is openly available to the biomedical community.
