Software tools can be cited by a persistent identifier, RRID, however multiple registries and repositories exist and a software tool registered in one registry may not be registered in another. To improve the process for software tool owners, we work with the NITRC repository where each tool deposited in NITRC is immediately cross listed and creates an RRID record. We have begun working with BioTools and Debian. To improve the overlap of the RRID registry with BioTools and Debian we used the tools’ RRID, PMID, name, and URL to map a list of 1015 software tools, which are now cross-listed between BioTools and the RRID registry. The next steps are to also update the matching tools from Debian and then put together a strategy to deal with the outliers and synchronize the registries / repositories so that a tool creator would only need to create and maintain one registry or repository record.
